A 47-year-old woman died after drowning in Gordons Bay, located just south of Clovelly in Sydney’s eastern suburbs. It is said that the woman had been pulled out of the water unconscious at 1:40 pm and emergency services rushed to the spot to help her.
Gordons Bay is a popular spot for swimmers and snorkelers but it is not patrolled by surf lifesavers. The beach is listed under the least hazardous category on the BeachSafe website.
On the same day, a 62-year-old man died surfing in Jervis Bay, on the New South Wales south coast. According to reports, the man was unresponsive when brought to the shore by surfers and swimmers. He was then attended to by paramedics from the NSW Ambulance but could not be revived despite the best efforts. The south coast police district and Australian federal police were also present at the scene.
Water sports can be extremely dangerous and can easily lead to life threatening situations. It is advised that swimmers and surfers take extra caution when engaging in these activities. Strict safety measures should be followed and accompanied by experienced persons.
It is also recommended that swimmers and surfers go to beaches that are patrolled by surf lifesavers.
