The police have launched a search for a couple, Constance Marten and Mark Gordon, and their newborn baby who went missing last week. They were believed to have travelled inland from an Essex port.
On Thursday evening, the couple abandoned their car after it broke down on the M61, near Bolton.
According to evidence, Marten had recently given birth and neither she nor the baby have been checked by medical personnel.
The Greater Manchester Police (GMP) released a CCTV image which they think is of Marten near Harwich Port, located in Essex.
The image was taken at around 9am on Saturday, more than 250 miles from where the family went missing.
Moreover, the couple were spotted in Colchester, about 20 miles away, at 10am.
A spokesperson for the GMP said: “As it has been over three days now, officers are becoming increasingly worried for the welfare of the baby, which is our main priority. We are asking Constance and members of the public who have any information to get in touch so that we can make sure the family are safe and sound.”
Originally from London, Gordon was seen wearing dark coloured clothing while Marten, who has a southern accent, had a burgundy coat on her. The newborn baby, who was swaddled, was seen with the couple.
The GMP has urged people across the United Kingdom to contact them via 999, quoting 2657 05/01/23, if they have any information that might lead to the family’s whereabouts. Information can also be shared anonymously with Crimestoppers charity.
The police are desperately searching for a couple and their newborn baby who went missing last week. After their vehicle had broken down on the M61, near Bolton, last Thursday, Constance Marten and Mark Gordon abandoned it and have been missing since then.
Evidence suggests that Marten has very recently given birth and neither she nor the baby have undergone medical checks. This has increased the gravity of the situation and has caused the police to be more concerned for the well-being of the newborn.
The Greater Manchester Police have released a CCTV image which is believed to be of Marten wearing a red shawl or blanket near the Harwich Port in Essex. The image was taken at around 9am on Saturday and the couple was spotted in Colchester around one hour later.
The GMP spokesperson said: “It has been three days since the family went missing, so we are getting really anxious. Everyone's main focus is the safety of the newborn baby. We are kindly asking Constance and anyone with information to get in touch with us so that we can make sure they are doing well.”
Originally from London, Gordon was wearing dark clothing while Marten, who has a southern accent, was wearing a burgundy coat. At the time they were seen, the newborn was wrapped in a shawl.
The GMP has urged people throughout the country to contact them via 999 quoting 2657 05/01/23 if they have any information that could lead to the family’s whereabouts. People can also choose to share their information anonymously with the Crimestoppers charity.
