Yesterday, things got even more interesting when former United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley said that former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s claim that she plotted to replace Mike Pence as Donald Trump’s vice-president was “lies and gossip” to sell a book.
It all started when the Guardian obtained a copy of Pompeo’s forthcoming memoir, Never Give An Inch, and reported his comments about Haley. Apparently Pompeo wrote some pretty negative stuff about her performance as UN Ambassador and even criticized her resignation from the Trump administration in October 2018.
Haley spoke out against these claims on Fox News Thursday evening; she said: "I don't know why he said it but that's exactly why I stayed out of DC as much as possible, to get away from the drama." She also pointed out that in his book he does not even know if what he wrote was true or not.
Not only is this fierce competition between two prominent Republicans for the 2024 presidential nomination, but it has also sparked some serious questions about Nikki Haley's alleged meeting with Donald Trump with Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner present allegedly presenting “a possible ‘Haley for vice-president’ option". John Kelly, who was then Trump's chief of staff thought this might have actually happened - though they both deny it!? Intense!
But regardless of what has been going on behind closed doors between these political powerhouses there is no doubt that Nikki Haley is determined to stand up for herself; she told Fox News that: "We are still working through things and we'll figure it out. I've never lost a race." She went on further saying "I'm not going to lose now" - these are bold words from such an impressive leader!
In addition to this determined attitude towards getting into the White House if given the chance, Nikki also made sure everyone knew how young she is compared with other presidential nominees (she turns 51 today!), speaking directly at Joe Biden who is 80 years old: "I don't think you need to be 80 years old go be a leader in DC – I think we need a young generation come in, step up and really start fixing things... Can I be that leader? Yes - I think I can be that leader" - YES GIRL YOU CAN!!
The former South Carolina governor has attracted support from Jared Kushner's family too; though they expect them both (Kushner & Co) will support Ivanka's father (Donald) – no surprises there right!? But apparently they're all good friends so at least all remains civil until election time ;) Speaking on Fox News again Nikki stated: “May the best woman win".
Other potential contenders include Vice President Pence himself plus Senators Ted Cruz & Josh Hawley – although current polling puts President Donald Trump & Florida Governor Ron DeSantis way ahead at this stage. Former foreign policy adviser Ben Rhodes didn't seem too hopeful about either Pompeo or Hayley making any kind of impact according him tweeting yesterday: "Pompeo & Haley poised for a real battle see who can crack 1% in Republican primary" - ouch!! We'll just have wait until 2024 rolls around though isn't it!?
So yeah like phew whatta drama huh?! It just goes ta show ya how easily rumors can spread amongst certain circles & create huge debates over something totally unconfirmed (especially online!). Not sure where all this will lead yet but I guess we'll just have ta wait n see… Betcha anything whoever comes outta top next year won't b someone looking ta cosy up with Beijing haha ;)
