Um, like, whoa. Have you ever heard of a war on nature? Well, I sure haven’t. But according to the news, that’s exactly what's happening in Ukraine.
The news said something about craters being formed by Russian shells on the Irpin River floodplain? Craters as in dents and divots in the land?? What’s even going on??
Sometimes you just have to take one step back before you can take two steps forward (or… is it the other way around?). Either way, a brand new wetland basin has been created when they breached an Irpin Dam. Not sure how or why but hey, progress!
This isn’t even related to war but hey - finally something non-confusing!
So apparently there are these little sweetheart kiwis who can't defend themselves from predators. Like… did we learn nothing from Lion King??? Enter Jenny Lux and her dog Skye who do kiwi avoidance training near Rotorua in New Zealand.
Apparently during this training process dogs get a short electric pulse from a collar when they come across stuffed kiwis that have been placed in the training area. Talk about getting shocked into learning!
Have you ever heard of Mumbai morays? Well me neither! But apparently photographer Sarang Naik was able to capture vibrant images of marine life showing off an entirely different side of Indian city life! Who knew?! His photos showed zoanthids, sponges and hydroids at India's coast AND he made this image from three photos shot at the same time??? That’s crazyyyyyy!!
Speaking of predators vs prey - snakes vs lizards might be taking over Ibiza?? Apparently due to imported ornamental olive trees there are hoards of snakes threatening wall lizards' future - oh noo!! British-Australian teacher Dean Gallagher is joining forces with locals to battle back against these invaders by throwing their bodies away so birds can eat them :O Yikes!!
In April women leaders from Brazil united together for the annual Free Land Camp where they protested against treatment of environment and Indigenous people :( It’s so cool that these ladies banded together for such an awesome cause and hopefully got through their message loud and clear!!
Steven Fuller has been Winterkeeper for Yellowstone Park for nearly 50 years now (wowza!) He also happened to share some stunning pics with us too – like Americans bison appearing to go into suspended animation during snowstorms , saving energy till spring comes :O Or folks walking trails amidst geyser basins?! Talk about feeling small yet mighty all at once :)
Christian Ndombe is Congo's eco-guard who releases newborn babies every morning between December & March into Atlantic Ocean so that they can make it out safely :) Every morning he helps baby Olive Ridley turtles make those first few steps out towards their new lives – talk about making your mark on history!!!
